Mosquitoes @ Pampas

We were not sure if the plane would fly to Rurrenabaque (Rurre), THE town (about 5000 inhabitants) in this area with an airport. Well, with an gras airstrip, i.e. no plane can start or land if threre was rain. And yes, in the rainforest area, it rains heavily and it does not dry very fast… We were lucky: the plane (Fairchild with two propellers and 17 passenger seats) left in time!

The flight was smooth, the view was superb, however not in the beginning… the windows were all frozen up – even the middle window in the cockpit…

After three more hours in a Jeep on a dirtroad and some animals on the way, we reached the lodge in the pampas, had a HUGE lunch and a siesta in the hammocks.

It was hot and humid, we were not used to it anymore after cold Lake Titicaca and La Paz. So we were quite happy when our guide told us, that the afternoon will be on the river in a small boat for bird watching…

The Pampas is a mostly dry grasland, especially during the dry saison (=now) the life is concentrated at the river banks. During the next days, we went quite often with the boot on the river and saw a lot of animals! See some of them… uploading all pics would take half a day

The first time in our life we went for fishing…

We also tried to find an anaconda (snake), walking through the hot swamp with plenty of moskitos for 1,5 hours – but we were not lucky…

After two nights in the pampas and plenty of moskito bites we went back to Rurre, had some cocktails in the Mosquito Jungle Bar and started a trip into the jungle the day after…
