Bora Bora – where is the second peak?

“This is it, this is the one. The arrival by plane says it all. From above, the promise of a wonderland is instantly made good: glinting turquoise sea and dazzlingly white sandy stretches of beach.” (Lonely Planet about Bora Bora)

And yes, this is right. Unfortunately, there were some clouds when we landed, however, the water is turquoise and so clear, that you don’t really need snorkeling equipment to see the fish…

On Bora Bora, we had our most expensive accommodation on the trip so far – but it was really nice and special…

And of course… even though it was already late afternoon, we went to the beach, to make beachboy Thorsten happy…

The lagoon is a nice snorkeling terrain, the corrals are not the best in the world, but the water is crystal clear and there are lots of nice and colorful fishes around. I even saw a firefish, nice to look at but I kept a healthy distance…

I the evening we had a perfect sunset:

When about 1 million of mosquitoes tried to eat us, we unpacked our collection of anti-mosquitoes sprays…

… and had a nice dinner in our private kitchen, bar and dining bungalow…

The next day we rented a boot for a private lagoon tour. Yes, you may call me Captain Iris now, it was only a small boat with 6 HP (PS), but what else do you need the a lagoon of Bora Bora than sun, a boat and someone around you wanna share time with ??

I wanted to see manta rays as there are places in the lagoon, where they can be seen. They can reach up to 4m! However, I didn’t see them when I was snorkeling in this area… When we saw sting rays from the boat, I was too afraid to jump into the water (they are about a meter…*smiley winking*. Iris, the Hasenfuß (=scared cat)…

Later we got some rain, not just a little but BIG drops which where really cold (water in the lagoon was very warm in comparison). We speeded up to get home and collected some liters of water in our yellow boat…

After a very nice day with a lot of sun and rain, we finished the day in our famous bar…

The last half day on Bora Bora, we went to the beach again, enjoyed a last time the lagoon and then headed of to our next island – Huahine!

P.S. We didn’t see both peaks of the Bora Bora mountains at the same time, when we where there… but that’s life!
