On the first day together with Kirsten and Peter we took it easy. First todo was relaxing at the 4 mile beach and trying to get a coconut down from the tree. Well, we haven’t been successful…
After that, we went to the Mossman Gorge, where we got a first impression what the Daintree National Park is like and Thorsten lost his sunglases in the river…
On the way back we found several mango trees with ready to eat mangos just lying next to them. Of course, the car stopped (I was driving) and all (except Thorsten who does not like them) were collecting like crazy. Yummy!! Thorsten got something else instead…
Next day: Daintree National Park. First thing was a boat tour on the river, where the salt water croc Fat Albert has been attacking the boat we were going with some days ago. We read the story in the local newspaper and where curious to find out more…
Well, we didn’t see Fat Albert that day, only some other salties (salt water crocodiles) swimming in the river. However, crocs are somehow more scary when you don’t see them but you know, they are around somewhere… We saw a beautiful scenery and some other wildlife:
Daintree is more than just a tour on the river, we spent some time at amazing lookouts, did some walks in the oldest still existing rainforest on earth and had some fun, of course.
Only drawbacks:
I was a bit disappointed – I brought bikini, mask and snorkel, as I saw a beautiful picture of the tribulation bay with the legend “Tribulation Bay – where the Great Barrier Reef meets the Rainforest”… No snorkelling that day, but the next day we went to Low Isles on the Great Barrier Reef…
On the way out to the reef we enjoyed the very nice and rather small catamaran Sailaway
Quickly in the water… It was amazing, very shallow water, the nicest corals I have ever seen and quite some fish around
After lunch, I did not loose a single minute and jumped in again… searching for another… right, turtle And if you look carefully, you find….
It was soooo cool!! Yes, now I really want to learn suba diving
After this very nice trip we returned to our apartment with little gecko…
That was it on the east coast for now – next stop: Darwin, Kakadu and Litchfield National Park
